An early morning at 5:50 am. My trip from Chala to Atico on the Pacific continues along a beautiful and sometimes quite winding coastal road. Then the road leads again and again directly along the coast or climbs up the coastal mountains, sometimes at a considerable height, to avoid cliffs. So I make good progress in the haze of the morning. On one of the latter ascents shortly before crossing the Rio Chaparra, I am really successful. Out of the corner of my eye I see what looks like a bird. I decide to stop and actually spot a Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus). I carefully prepare my Nikon F 5 camera with the Nikon Nikkor AF-S 500mm f/4.0 D ED and move back a few meters. The peregrine falcon sits practically right next to the road, only slightly hidden by boulders. It shakes its feathers slightly, becomes a little restless, but does not fly away. Not even when I approach a few meters again. Now it’s only 12-15 meters. I keep my camera on it and can take some really nice shots. Only when the car comes closer does it change position and finally fly away. A little later I pass a dry valley near Cerro Arenas, not far from Atico, which arouses my curiosity with its sparse bushy vegetation. But that’s the subject of another blog.
The spring season is a particularly exciting time for bird watchers as birds of all species migrate and return to their breeding grounds. The Peregrine Falcon is one of the most impressive birds that can be observed on their migration and also at the breeding site during this time.
To cope with the growing demand for top shots of the rarer species of the Palearctic Bird-Lens is keen to enrich the range of pictures of birds you can find in the western palearctic. Trips to remote places like this one to capture images not only of rare birds of western palearctic were very successful. The nice image of the blog is only a first impression, what you will find in the gallery in the “Picture Shop” very soon. Just give bird-lens.com a message, if bird-lens.com could serve you with an image needed before the new pictures are online.
