Bird photography in your own garden: use of a camouflage tent

At the beginning of last winter, I watched with interest the hustle and bustle around the bird table in our garden during breakfast. It was a beautiful morning with sunshine. A Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) kept coming to the bird feeder because he thought he would find sunflower seeds there. A little later, a… Continue reading Bird photography in your own garden: use of a camouflage tent

Pygmy Owl in CHKO Kokorin in Czech Republic

It is foggy and windless in the Kokorin Valley. The area is named after Kokorin Castle, which towers over the valley of the same name. Already at the southern end of the long valley there are impressive sandstone formations that are so typical of this area. The numerous pine trees give the wildly romantic landscape… Continue reading Pygmy Owl in CHKO Kokorin in Czech Republic

Eurasian Pygmy-Owl in Saxon Switzerland National Park south of Dresden

As the sun sinks behind the horizon and casts long shadows across the forest floor, the kingdom of owls in the “Saxon Switzerland” National Park should be visited. In the mysterious hours between dusk and dawn they come to life. With every step the forest shines into the observer to envelop a symphony of rustling… Continue reading Eurasian Pygmy-Owl in Saxon Switzerland National Park south of Dresden

Yellow-browed Warblers as vagrants in Middle Europe again!

High-pitched calls shout from the bushes along the banks of an oxbow of the Havel River a little river in northern Brandenburg in Germany. In the willows you can quickly spot Goldcrests (Regulus regulus), scurrying through the bushes inconspicuously but in large numbers. But it’s worth taking a closer look. And really, in this case… Continue reading Yellow-browed Warblers as vagrants in Middle Europe again!

Pygmy Owl in the upper Harz Mountains

A hike in the highlands around the Brocken, the highest mountain far and wide. It’s foggy and windless. It also snowed for a few days. Then suddenly a rhythmic song, a scale, can be heard. It is a Eurasian Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum), which sits a little later on a dead, thickly icy spruce tree… Continue reading Pygmy Owl in the upper Harz Mountains

My backyard, garden bird photography near Berlin

I’m really enjoying my garden bird photography at the moment. Since October I have had a feeding place for the birds in the garden. The feeding site is quite busy. But there are many birds of prey here on the outskirts of the village. I think the most dangerous is the resident male Eurasian Sparrowhawk… Continue reading My backyard, garden bird photography near Berlin

Eurasian jays feeds on songbird

Since October I have had a feeding place for the birds in the garden. There are many birds of prey here on the edge of the village. where the most dangerous I think is the resident female Eurasian Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus). In any case, it is clear to the rest of the birds that it… Continue reading Eurasian jays feeds on songbird

Sparrowhawk feeding on a House Sparrow

If you operate a winter bird feeder, you can easily make beautiful and interesting nature observations from the window. For this reason I also feed, and not because I expect it to have a nature conservation effect. Many of our endangered birds aren’t there in winter anyway. They are in the warm south and would… Continue reading Sparrowhawk feeding on a House Sparrow

Patience for a G(h)ost-Hawk

….no birds and no squirrels to hear around. Snow is falling. The table for the Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) finally is beautifully covered with snow. This gives great pictures from the Northern Goshawk – if he is coming. After a while, the first Chicadees are to be seen. First Blue Tits (Cyanistes caeruleus) and Great Tits… Continue reading Patience for a G(h)ost-Hawk

Singvögel am Habicht-Luderplatz

Wintereinbruch in Deutschland. Nun… Continue reading Singvögel am Habicht-Luderplatz
